Australia Commonwealth Learning Scholarships (CLS) Application
The Commonwealth Learning Scholarships (CLS) program started in 2004. Since 1 January 2008, the program is known as the Commonwealth Scholarship program. Policy objectives of the program are selected for higher education and universities to promote the participation of students from low socio-economic status backgrounds, particularly indigenous students and students from regional and remote areas.
Under the program, higher education to evaluate and approve applicants fellows in accordance with general guidelines established by the Minister for Education, Employment and Industrial Relations (DEEWR). The scholarships are not considered income for social security and matters of pension and elderly, or for ABSTUDY.
2008-09 Budget announcements
The Commonwealth Scholarship Program has been significantly expanded, as the result of a competitive grants announced for the future that are within the budget 2008-09. This step doubles the number of scholarships available to 88,000 by 2012. This latest expansion of the Commonwealth Scholarship follows an increase in the number of new Commonwealth Scholarships in 2008 from 12,900 in 8500th
